Description (last modified by lantti)

The groups overview page needs some improvements.

Here is a first idea: show boxes with lists of 5-10 groups:
groups with

  • most new members
  • newest groups
  • most active groups (most new forum threads)
  • most members

https://gitorious.org/~mahouni/bewelcome/mahouni-rox/commit/3a1f615ccfb25c98babfaf0a07f6a237d441dc1b

Also a category tree and a map with group locations is possible.

current situation: we only have the new groups (with 1 or 2 members) on top. completely irrelevant.

mahouni, your idea is great.

There were discussions about getting some kind of "featured groups" showing up on such an overview page during the GA. I might point pablo to this ticket. Idea is to feature groups which have the bewelcome/hospex spirit and hide groups which are maybe more "questionable" (group singles).

Of course question would be how and who decide which groups are featured...

A groups overview page using subgroups and locations:
http://gitorious.org/~mahouni/bewelcome/mahouni-rox/commits/subgroups_geogroups

You would have to define only one top of category group and give the required admins and membership settings to that group. From there on you can add subgroups, each with the approriate setting.

What is the status here? I made a new mygroups/allgroups page for ticket #1991 and this code from mahouni looks like it could benefit that page too. Actually the old groups overview page would pretty much be hidden after my changes and could not be reached through any links (although it would stay accessible if you write a direct url to it). Should we work to merge this to develop so I could then merge develop to my feature branch or should I merge selected parts from this to my feature branch directly?

  • Milestone changed from unassigned to In Discussion

On http://www.bewelcome.org/groups/search 30 groups are shown. Additionally you can sort the list regarding member count, latest post and creation date (ascending and descending).

So the only thing missing would be the highest count of new members but wouldn't that most likely be the newly created groups?

Do we need to change anything here?

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
