If we show all possible 7 icons the layout breaks. But as I need the icons anyway for the new search result I asked for input from the design team (the old ones just don't fit).

All icons on profile

Did some quick hacking: All 7 icons could be arranged like this

All icons on profile

For less than 5 icons I'd keep the old 4 in a row.

Okay, I had a go at the icons myself:

The guided tour image might need to be changed at a later time but should be fine for now (especially with the tooltip).

Well I guess the whole ticket is not really a bug or should be discussed. While moving to the new profile we simplified a couple of fields in the profile. All this you can write down below the field "I can offer my guests:"

In my opinion it blows up the profile and also the search. So I would remove the search options instead.

(You still could search for key words like dinner and tour or simply ask the host while writing requests)

If I'm new members all these pictures would be unclear for me: No alcohol could be interpreted as no wine but beer allowed? Also the drugs symbol is absolutely no clear for me. Also tooltips won't help here. As this is geeky dev usability which my girlfriend would never come up with ;-)

So a big -1 for adding more fields to the profile from my side.

@crumbking: I disagree here. If the decision was to simplify the profile than the check boxes should have been removed as well. As long as the check boxes for the typical offers and the restrictions exist I and obviously other would expect that they do something. Which means they either trigger a text addition to the profile or add an icon.

Just clicked through some profiles of my friends and obviously a lot had guided tour and dinner as well as no drugs ticked.

Clearly some icons work better than others. But checkout the noun project (http://thenounproject.com/) they seem to believe that the whole world can be described with icons ;-)

PS: The wheelchair icon should be blue as it is used like that internationally and not green...

An alternative no drugs icon (just in case ;-).

Use existing word codes instead of introducing new ones: https://gitorious.org/bewelcome/rox/commit/793b65fef123656a5517bfad74db46714e28154e

Am I the only one or does the guided tour pic looks like couple of test tubes? :-)

comment:15 Changed 6 years ago by shevek

I always thought it looks more like reception bars :-) I used pillars like the ones of the Acropolis as a start though...

(And a friend of mine said that the alternative looks like a rocket and not like the Eiffel tower. Where are the designers if you need them?)

comment:16 Changed 6 years ago by pablobd

We could try a binocular icon for the guided tour? or maybe a folded map? a compass?

comment:17 Changed 6 years ago by shevek

We can try whatever as long as I don't have to draw it ;-) I ask OctoberTales? to come up with one...

Replying to shevek:

So here we go for the guided tour:

looks like a golf caddy ;-)

Different question: Do we really need icons for that? In my opinion we should only use unambiguous pictograms.

The idea was to be able to spot people willing to meet up as there is no status like that (see http://www.bewelcome.org/forums/s3993-___Coffee_and_drink____members_)

The last icon didn't have transparency set. So I commit one which has (and use the camera one now ;-)).

Icons are visible now. How many and which icons should be shown in the end is up to the community. So let's see what threads crop up after the release :-)

comment:26 Changed 6 years ago by planetcruiser

hm, i am not sure about the display of a hemp leaf symbolising "other drugs"..

we all know that many people have strong opinions on this subject, especially in our type of community. i personally wouldn't mind someone doing a "J" or wearing hemp clothes at my place, but i would oppose harder stuff.

i liked the needle better.

comment:27 Changed 6 years ago by shevek

I would prefer the syringe as well. Drugs seems to be connected with hard drugs for most people.

There was a discussion in the forum about the icons. That's why there are so many...

comment:28 Changed 6 years ago by planetcruiser

where is that thread? did people actually come to the conclusion that hemp is evil? :)

it's kind of funny though. i imagine a heroin addict browsing profiles and going "aw man, i can't visit this guy, because i can't shoot up at his place" :-P

meaning: how much significance does a setting like this really have?

comment:29 Changed 6 years ago by shevek

Thread is here: http://alpha.bewelcome.org/groups/56/forum/s4050-Icons_needed

They also discuss the necessity of the setting itself.

comment:30 Changed 6 years ago by planetcruiser

err.. so we just released with the hemp leaf? ah, just spotted your post in the icons forum thread. ok, let's see what people say.
