#1988 new improve feature

Personal setting for visibility of posts

Description (last modified by sitatara)

Currently, every member can set the visibility for his/her posts individually for every post. While the default visibility when starting a new thread is group only for groups and members only for the forum, the default setting changes for all following posts, if the person who starts a thread chooses a different setting.

So, if a thread has been started with visibility "world", someone who wants to have his/her posts visible to "members only" has to choose this setting for every single of his/her posts there.

Additionally, since, in the past, the visibility used to be changeable only when editing one's posts (and that was far from obvious), many posts remain public that users might wish to make visible to members only.

Therefore, the following solution has been suggested (here: and here: too):

Give members the option to select a visibility setting for all their posts in their preferences (also applied retrocatively to older posts). They are only applied if they are more restrictive than the thread visibility. Otherwise the thread visibility takes precedence.
