#2276 assigned unknown

Allow to send a reminder to confirm email address

Reported by: shevek Owned by: shevek

Description

A lot of accounts do never confirm their email address (roughly 600 since beginning of 2015). Add to mass mailing the possibility to send a reminder containing all necessary information for a member to finish the signup process.

It is a double face problem:

The unconfirmed email could be due to:

  • user lazyness
  • confirm message end in some lost box
  • user no more interested
  • accidentally wrong address
  • deliberately wrong address (pointing to someone else address)

The remind would be useful in the first two cases, of no use in the third.
in the fourth is ineffective at best while in the fifth could be a source of collateral spamming that is not good.
Given these facts, and the fact that in 2nd case it is likely to end in teh same way and in the fifth could lead to bad reactions i would say no to this feature.

@leo: You oversee the fact that we can clean up the database based on the responses to the reminder.

So bounces would clearly indicate that their is a problem with the email and the member can be removed from the DB.

Combined with a cleanup if a user hasn't reacted on the reminder before the next one is sent this would also free blocked usernames.

My idea is that if the account is not confirmed within 7 days be just deleted without other messages.

very simple.
