#247 closed improve feature (fixed)

contactmember.php - set focus on message box, add some blanklines to quoted message!

Reported by: lemon-head Owned by:

Component: BW Mail Keywords: easy

A usability flaw that can be fixed quite easily (I hope). When you visit contactmember.php (the page to write a message), then

  • the focus (text cursor) should be on the message box, so you can start typing with no extra click.
  • if this is a reply to another message, there should be some whitespaces before the quoted text!

Test on alpha with WinXP and FF and MS IE 6.0.2900.2180

Setfocus works fine on both browser. The new line on the bottom and the ">" whitespaces before the quoted text, when you reply a message, works also on both browser very fine.

Detail: If you reply on a message you have in FF the focus at the end (bottom in new line) of the text and with IE on the top right. -> implement the focus on new line" also in IE.

  • Browser focus doesn't work on alpha with iceweasel (= FF) on a linuxbox (focus is at "members online"-link)
  • Also no new lines for a reply.

Would be nice to have the default browser focus at (contact us), (add note for a member) and so on as well!

  • follow_up changed from test on alpha to review code

comment:9 Changed 11 years ago by philipp

what's the reason for setting this to "review code"? did you spot some problems here? I think it could go production (follow up: release, status: closed) as it is and improved further in the close future (together with default focus on other pages as you suggested)

comment:10 Changed 11 years ago by midsch

I just rechecked this bug and noticed, I forgot to set it to "review" after my last comment. As it doesn't work for me in FF/Iceweasel, it's not ready for release. Besides the described bug/feature here, it's also a question if this can be done in a similare way at (contact us), and so on or if new tickets are necessary for it.

I suggest doing further improvements (e.g. fixing it for Iceweasel) and introducing it to other pages while moving them to BW rox (messages is ongoing work by andreas).

rox messages application is a total rewrite, internally. I only copied the old bw html from my web browser, so I did not have to think that much about layout.

This means, there won't be much to "move" actually. If we want to fix a problem for the new version, doing the same in bw won't help much, except that i can see how it looks like over there.

  • follow_up changed from review code to release
  • Resolution set to fixed
  • Status changed from reopened to closed

Ok, I set this to fixed/release (it's better than before) and we recheck the different browser issues / usability stuff again with the new rox application and in a new ticket if necessary.
