mod_gzip, you mean?

  • follow_up changed from none to test

I did this:

bwrox@bull:~/configs/apache2/mods-enabled$ ln -s ../mods-available/deflate.* .
bwrox@bull:~/configs/apache2/mods-enabled$ sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

Please test if content is gzipped now.

one way to test could probably be to download a big easily compressed textfile, and check with ifconfig or tcpdump that the number of bytes transferred is smaller than the size of the textfile. I will make such a file available at https://www.bewelcome.org/bigfile.txt

(be aware that many tools like wget etc does not support gzip, so testing has to be done from a regular browser)

You can simply test with YSlow, e.g. from https://addons.mozilla.org/nl/firefox/addon/5369

Right now it's not gzipped on test or live.

That's a disappointment :-( I'm pretty sure I've set it up "according to the book". anyway, need to sleep now ...

hm ... gzip really doesn't work :/ I can verify it both on http and https

For https://www.bewelcome.org/bw/member.php?cid=lupochen it worked once according to YSlow: "These components are not gzipped: [HTTP headers] (1.1K) https://www.bewelcome.org/styles/YAML/bw_yaml.css". So maybe there's a problem with YSlow..?

I used tcpdump for testing ... and some plain text page was not zipped. Hm.

Content of the types text/html text/plain text/xml should be gzipped according to the configs.

I will see if I have more time to look into it later today, I'm kind of busy with work now

What's the status here?

comment:12 Changed 9 years ago by fake51

should be fixed on both test and production - feel free to test and close :)

  • follow_up changed from test to none
  • Resolution set to fixed
  • Status changed from new to closed

firebug shows me that all files are gzipped now.
